What can I put in my bokashi bucket?

Unlike conventional composting, bokashi composting can break down almost all of your kitchen waste. Here's what can go into your bokashi bucket:

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings, cores, and leftovers (cooked or raw).
  • Meat, including small bones.
  • Eggs (cooked).
  • Dairy, including cheese and yogurt.
  • Grain products including bread, pasta, oatmeal, etc.
  • Biodegradeable paper products like paper plates and coffee filters (in moderation).
  • Tea leaves (including bags) and coffee grounds.
  • Leftover casseroles, soups, etc. (in moderation).
What can't go into your bokashi bucket:
  • Anything moldy, purifying, or already "off."
  • Straight oils (cheese, fried potatoes, etc. are OK).
  • Straight liquids (soups, applesauce, etc. are OK).
