How long does Bokashi tea last?

Once exposed to the air, bokashi leachate should be used within a few hours or it may start to spoil. If you want to keep it longer, put it into an airtight container such as a recycled plastic bottle and store in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

Reports of success in storing bokashi tea vary wildly, likely due to the wildly varying compositions of the bokashi leachate, and the varying conditions under which it is stored.

If you can't put it on your plants right away and don't want to attempt storing it, pour it down the drain (the organisms in bokashi juice are good for breaking down buildup in sewer pipes).

If you are using a closed two-bucket DIY bokashi fermentation vessel (without a spigot) once you've taken the buckets apart to check on the leachate, dump out the bottom collection bucket immediately even if there is only a small amount. Once the leachate has been exposed to the air, there is a significant risk of it starting to putrefy if it's left in the collection bucket.

Some people have reported success saving the bokashi leachate for a couple of days in the refrigerator, but it's not a reliable strategy.
